What is Design Build?
Design build or otherwise known as the master builder approach is one of the oldest forms of construction. It is actually a pretty simple concept… you will work with one company throughout your project from start to finish for everything in your project. Design build relies on a single point of responsibility and is used to minimize risks for the customer yet maximizes efficiencies in completing the project on time and on budget
The advantages of using a single firm for the entire project are considerable
- Design and Communication. A team of experts work together to complete the project. The designer and the craftsman are all on the same team which mean they work together to build a functional yet aesthetically pleasing space. Team members tend to understand the position and timing each trade must work within to bring the project to a timely and successful conclusion and cooperate to that end.
- Faster Completion. All scheduling is handled by the central office, coordinating with you, the consumer. Scheduling unrelated contractors for the various components of a remodel can be a very time consuming and challenging job.
- Having a Team of Experts Work for You. Individuals within a team may assist one another to complete the job satisfactorily. Unrelated trades people are sometimes tempted to play the ‘blame game’ when something goes wrong, leaving the consumer to try to sort out the truth. Having designers and builders working together from the beginning eliminates any cost “surprises” in the remolding process.

Develop a wish list and a project vision. Start to gather ideas for your project. Look at online sources for inspiration ex. visit HOUZZ, Pinterest. Ask around for references. Develop a realistic budget and timeline.
Choose the Right Team
Start to shop around for remodelers in your area. Do your Research. Make sure to check their references and credentials. Angie’s List. Goggle, Yelp, the BBB are all good places to search, as well as a general web search of a company are all helpful in finding out background info of a remodeling company. When you are ready, call Sterling Studio Kitchen and Bath. We will schedule an appointment to meet with you and get to know you. At your appointment, we will ask questions, obtain measurements of the project area. We will review your existing conditions and make preliminary suggestions on project feasibility and identify potential problems and solutions. We will provide you with an initial cost estimate and project timeline based on our meeting. Oftentimes customers believe they can start the project as soon as possible, however in remolding projects we are at times scheduled 2-3 months out. Many reasons come into play to cause this. Some of our materials are special orders and minimum a month to get in.
Seal the Deal
Once you look over the initial project proposal, we will meet again and make revisions. Remember nothing is set in stone yet until we sign a contract. If everything looks agreeable, we will provide you will a contract and we will begin the material selection process and start the concept drawings/ elevations. We will help you select all the products that will go into the project i.e. cabinetry, plumbing, flooring, granite/quartz, lightning, windows, doors and finishes, and whatever else we need to complete the project.
Seamless Construction
Project start. This is where the magic happens. Our craftsman will arrive to turn your visions into reality. We will keep you informed on all aspects of the project, from budget to work flow. We will meet with you throughout the project to get your feedback and make sure the project is running as planned. We will walk thru with you and develop a punch list of loose ends we may need to tie up and complete them in a timely manner.
